Common problems with computer presentations
Computer presentation can be a very effective way of communicating and disseminating your work. However, like any conventional media, there are precautions necessary.
- The font-set is not necessarily identical with different versions of Powerpoint. A presentation created using the Japanese version may not be compatible with an English one, and vice versa.
- For the same reason, mathematical formulae are best inserted as image files which are invariant to version.
- Excessive use of animation, colour or fonts can be distracting.
- Computer presentations should be rehersed at the local site, well before the appointed hour. Computers and projectors may be incompatible, or may require an adjustment to the system and screen software. This will avoid embarrassment and save time.
