Notes:

AISI 316 is an example of steel used for high temperature application. A straight use of MT-DATA tells us that at 650 C, we expect a carbide and sigma-phase.
Only with kinetics modelling can we predict the actual formation of Laves-phase, which is transient, and the considerable time required to obtain sigma-phase. Example is for 650 C. Graph on the right shows experiments (top), and prediction (bottom).
