This is the first bicycle race held by the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy. On the 6th of January, the participants raced from Cambridge to St Ives. The first five to complete are as follows:
The fastest time was 43 minutes and 11 seconds, with the rest arriving within 14 minutes of the winner. The remnants of the flood in St Ives, caused by the lakes overflowing on to the cycle path, were still evident.
On reaching St Ives, we treated ourselves to sumptious meals, plus a large desert each, then walked to Houghton Mill and back and then home. On the way, repaired a puncture in Shaumik's bike.
The total distance covered, including the journeys home, was 40.88 miles. Some photographs courtesy of Apparao Chintha and Steve Ooi
