System integration and Modelling Challenges

• Dynamic modelling and simulation (supported by test programme) to validate system performance in extreme conditions:

  • waterjet aeration: full power, 36 knots, 7.5 metre significant wave height
  • waterjet emergence: low speed, 11 metre significant wave height

• Key issue is impact of such events on gas turbine, and response of gas turbine controller.

• Detailed component level models integrated into propulsion system/ship level models.
