Visit to Matsushima

Ken-ichiro Ibaraki and Kota Kido, two of the Master's students in the lab, very kindly organised a trip for me to Matsushima (Pine Tree Islands), a famous scenic spot celebrated by the poet Basho amongst others. We took a boat trip past many of the tiny islands which make up Matsushima, before arriving at the main town. From the mainland it is possible to reach several of the islands by bridge to see different views of the scene. Matsushima is very beautiful, and I don't think I managed to capture the essence of it in these photos, which seem a bit dull compared to the real thing!
