The term "chrysalis" describes a hard case that protects a stage of growth in which a butterfly turns into an adult. It eventually breaks to allow the butterfly to emerge.
Here, Kang Muxiang has used discarded steel-cables from an elevator, when they were replaced by new ones. The elevator concerned is in Taipei 101, which is the tallest building in Taiwan. The artwork is located on the 85th floor. The cables are very strong, made from cold-drawn pearlite.
