The audience at Harry's lecture |
Here, showing how to avoid overfitting non-linear models |
 Reduced-activation steels |
A lovely exhibition of a few of the many steel products made using steel from "China Steel". Pictures reproduced with permission. |
Strong fastners, for example for wind turbines or other engineering structures |
These large ones are for wind power generation structures |
Variety of fastners for furniture |
Strong springs and other devices. The steel used has Fe-0.6C-1.4Si-0.7Mn-0.7Ct wt% and after generating martensite, which is tempered, its yield strength is in excess of 1 GPa. |
China Steel provided the thermomechanically processed strong steel for the construction of Taipei 101. The image also shows the mechanisms introduced to resist damage from earthquakes |
 Drive shafts and gears |

Electric motors and transformers are now big business. Here, and electrical steel with a self-bonding coating, motor cores. |
Amazing picture of steel in a car body, including the lightweight but safe, seats. Notice the frontal crash beams which would absorb considerable energy in the event of an impact |
The CSC Group also makes aluminium for computers, bullet-proof armour etc. |
