Purpose

This library contains weld metal chemical analysis data (wt% and ppm by wt) and Charpy toughness values (in Joules).

Description

The tar file has two constitiuents; data are contained in the file Weld.toughness.data, while Weld.toughness.info contains an ASCII text version of this explanation.

The file Weld.toughness.data has two distinct parts, with data arranged in columns as follows.

Part One

Column 1 defines the process: 0.5 for submerged arc welding, -0.5 for manual metal arc welding

Column 2 gives upper yield stress in MPa

Columns 3-8 give concentrations from chemical analysis of weld metal, the units being weight% :-

Carbon
Silicon
Manganese
Phosphorus
Sulphur
Aluminium

Columns 9 and 10 give concentrations from chemical analysis of weld metal; units are parts per million by weight :-

Nitrogen
Oxygen

Column 11 is percent primary microstructure

Column 12 is percent secondary microstructure

Column 13 is percent allotriomorphic ferrite

Column 14 is percent acicular ferrite

Column 15 is percent Widmanstätten ferrite

Column 16 is absolute temperature at which Charpy test was conducted.

Column 17 is a reference giving source of data (see [1] for details)

Part Two

The second half of the file contains Charpy toughness values in Joules. The arrangement of rows is precisely the same as in the first half of the file. Thus, row 1 of the top half corresponds to row 1 of the second half.
