Water trubine, Peru
H. K. D. H. Bhadeshia
A water turbine converts the kinetic and potential energy of water into mechanical work.
The impulse turbine illustrated has a stream of water directed at each bucket. The water then simply flows out at the bottom.
The pictures were taken at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.

This is a water turbine for hydroelectric power generation. Water jets are aimed directly at the bucket-shaped blades with the kinetic energy of the water converted into the mechanical motion of the turbine. |

The turbine is made of 13 wt% chromium, cast steel. |

|

The water causes damage over time, repaired here by welding. |
