Harry visited the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) during August 2024, to participate in a Ph.D. examination.
Flew from Stansted Airport near London, to Copenhagen. This is after landing in Copenhagen. |
Wonderful, short flight, essentially on time. |

This is a large meteorite sample that Professor Marcel Somers showed us. The magnification in all the images is x1. |
The meteorite was discovered by Professor Vagn Fabritius Buchwald of DTU back in 1965 in Iceland. |
Shows the lovely Widmanstaetten pattern typical of incredibly slow cooling through the transformation temperature. In geological terminology, it is the transformation from taenite to kamacite. |
Professor Somers' sample was as big as a book and we could see the structure in three-dimensions along the edge. |
A careful examination shows Widmanstaetten ferrite exhibiting a plate morphology for those crystals that have traces on both surfaces. |
Harry has asked Marcel to arrange for a careful re-polish so that we can see the three-dimensional shape with greater clarity. |

There is a unique facility at DTU, where additive manufacturing machines are constructed in such a way that the hardware can be modified easily, unlike commercially available machines. This is very good for research, or for industry to try experiments not possible on standard machines. |
Walking through Cophenhagen towards an Indian restaurant, courtesy of Professor Marcel Somers. John Hald, Matteo, Matteo Villa, Basit Ali, Dirk Ponge (Max Plank Dusseldorf), Marcel and I had delicious food and lots of discussion about life and its meaning. |

Pay particular attention to the picture on the right. |
The scene from the Comfort Airport-Hotel where Dirk and I stayed overnight to depart in the morning, after a nice breakfast. |
The terminal is just five minutes gentle walk from the hotel. |

Arrival at Stansted, from which I took a train to Cambridge, followed by a bicycle ride home to Comberton. |
