Arpan gave a talk in which he explained how he could estimate the fraction of martensite obtained in austenitic stainless steel stressed in tension, using both a model based on mechanical free energy and one on neural networks. The essence of the work is that a vast quantity of published data can be explained on the basis of stress affected transformation rather than strain induced martensite.
