Grains in Pure Aluminium


Micrographs and information provided by Amir Shirzadi and Ellies Muyupa of the Open University. The almost pure aluminium has been treated with gallium, which wets the grain boundaries, leading to their physical separation, a phenomenon known as liquid metal embrittlement.
